Location, location, location – what a place and view!
I knew as soon as I arrived and saw my first woodchat shrike within seconds of arriving
that we would have a great holiday, and we did.
Plenty of places visited, plenty more for next time.

This was our first visit to mainland Portugal. We needed to get away from the stress at home and found Casa Rosa by "google" Algarve, bird watching. What a hit!We have enjoyed morning-swim in the pool, breakfast at the terrace served by your hosts, taken some walks in the area around and got help to rent a cheap car that helped us explore som lovely spots in the Algarve.
Thanks for a great dinner, thanks for all your help and thanks for the answers to stupid questions. We will let our friends know about Casa Rosa. Location close to everything, beautiful and with the calm and peace that you need.

Thank you very much. We hope to come again.
Lovely, quiet and very comfortable place to stay. Just three days of full time birding, but a great location with so much to see locally – Hoopoe, woodchat shrike and Azure winged magpie whilst having breakfast!! Quinta Marim is a great nature reserve and only 10 mins drive.
Love to come back.

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Rosa thanks to our very obliging hosts. The apartment was comfortable and clean.
This was our first visit ot the Algarve and we were very impressed with the accommodating and the surrounding area. We visited several castles and many nature reserves in the area but there is still much here to see and do so I am sure we will visit again.
Best wishes Carol and Chris
For the second time we stayed some days in one of your apartments. Like last year everything was ok!
Being birdwatchers you did not see much of us, leaving before sunrise and often returning after sunset. In four days we spotted 166 species.
This place is a very good starting point for birdwatching. North, west and east at an acceptable distance. Even going to Spain, Coto Donana, can be done within some days and after that return to Casa Rosa was a possibility to took. Thanks to the hospitality of Jan and Kjersti.
This is a place to remember and to return to in future.

Casa Rosa is a rare gem in the Algarve, beautifully situated. Clean, spacious apartments equipped to a very high standard. We loved the thoughtful additions that made self catering so easy. The house and grounds are gorgeous, the hosts are delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
The bird watching was amazing, our best day was at Quinta do Lago. We saw curlew, whimbrell, storks, heran, egret, flamingo, plover, wax bill, little bittern, glossy ibis, I could go on!
A fantastic few days, we would like to return again and again.

We received this from Dave Hardaker:
The accommodation at Casa Rosa was spotlessly clean and the room well presented. The surrounding gardens are beautiful and the hosts, Jan-Ketil and Kjersti friendly and welcoming. Our trip was primarily a birding holiday and we were not disappointed. In the garden were Azure Winged Magpies, Woodchat Shrikes, Hoopoes, Short Toed Treecreeper, Cuckoo and Bee-eaters just to start you off. We visited Castro Marim as well as the area around Faro airport and Petra Marsh, three wonderful coastal locations where an excellent range of wetland species were present. It is worth a trip North to the Alentejo, between Castro Verdie and Mertola (about 1 hour) where we had 300 Griffin Vultures, Black Vulture, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Many Montagues Harriers as well as Calandra Larks and Blackbellied Sandgrouse. A trip to The Coto Donana (2 hours) in Spain is also worthwhile as we had literally thousands of Pratincoles and 40 Whiskered Terns there to name just two. Using Casa Rosa as a base, we had 120 odd species in all and anyone interested in a birding holiday as well as a peaceful, relaxing environment would need to go a long way to better this location.
Dave Hardaker.
Hoopoes keep us company walking along the lane and flying around every spring and early summer..
All within a short drive from Casa Rosa there is a large diversity of
countryside and coastline environment, that offer splendid habitat for a very
large variety of bird species. Even in the grounds and garden of Casa Rosa,
depending on the season, you can expect to see; Bee-eaters, Azure-winged Magpie,
Sardinian, Subalpine & Melodious Warbler, Woodchat Shrike, Little Owl, Red-necked Nightjar and Hoopoes.
Seven kilometres to the South lies the Ria Formosa Nature
Reserve.
